ROCH I LOVE TO YOU
It’s been three years since ROCH made an appearance on TMR, back then with dream-pop outing ‘Vienna’. The London-based artist has released several tracks over the years, showing a steady evolution of her sound into the full-bodied presence we hear in ‘I Love To You’. Beginning with sparkling analog synths and ROCH mellowed voice, the song stretches and reforms over four and a half minutes, become ever stranger. We can trace the exploratory nature of this track through its title ‘I Love To You’, which was a phrase coined by feminist writer Lucie Irigiray in attempt to reposition “I love you” and liberate language. ROCH builds on this idea through her lyrics, “I love to you is never mutual, / I love to you is never feasible.” Speaking about what first inspired her to explore this topic, ROCH says "I am interested in relationships, and what language we use to portray the everyday. Sometimes you need to reinvent language to capture the essence of the relationship." Soak in this mercurial R&B-tinged pop creation below. - Hannah Thacker
